A Kitchen Inspired by Nature and Designed for Real Life
Great design begins by listening.
For our English Sage project, our clients wanted a home that felt timeless with just the right amount of personality. Inspired by nature, we paired a soft sage green palette with classic transitional details and an unexpected patterned tile. The result is a kitchen that feels calm, welcoming, and full of character.
While the finishes set the tone, it was the layout that truly transformed this home.
The original kitchen was undersized, closed off, and difficult for two people to cook in comfortably. To completely rethink the space, we invested in a structural beam that allowed us to remove key walls and connect the kitchen to both the family room and formal living spaces. What was once a series of disconnected rooms is now one cohesive space designed for gathering and entertaining.
Natural light was another priority.
To better capture the beautifully landscaped backyard, we swapped the locations of the dining room window and the patio doors. This simple change allowed us to create a highly functional U-shaped kitchen while strengthening the connection between indoors and out. During the summer months, the patio doors open directly onto the outdoor dining area, making entertaining feel effortless.
Of course, every renovation comes with a few challenges.
One load-bearing wall, which also housed the staircase and mechanical systems, was too costly to remove. Rather than seeing it as a limitation, we turned it into an opportunity. By extending the wall 40 inches, we created a custom bar with a hidden walk-in pantry, adding valuable storage while creating a beautiful focal point between the kitchen and adjoining living spaces.
Designed to resemble a freestanding furniture piece, the bar softens the transition between rooms and brings warmth, balance, and functionality to the heart of the home.
This project is a reminder that thoughtful design isn't about starting with a perfect floor plan. It's about uncovering the potential that's already there and transforming everyday challenges into beautiful, practical solutions.
That's where the best design stories begin.
